Why did it have to be me with the shaded life
Who can’t see the blade but knows its a knife
Who can’t meet the sky
because the leash is too tight
Locked up from the world,
left to howl in the night
Why’d it have to be me to have to look them in the face
To hide all my anger, to pretend I’m a disgrace.
To be part of a race so feeble and so young.
To have to stay out in the sun all day, my story left unsung.
Why’d it have to be to turn my head away,
To ignore the cries of my people and watch them get slayed.
Why’d it have to be me to have to take of my own
One more stifling breath of this world I call Home.
